2004 Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
Statistics:
The EEOC is a federal agency charged with enforcing the various federal
employment laws and with protecting employees who complain about such offenses
from retaliation:

The EEOC achieved a record $420 million in awards for victims of employment
discrimination in fiscal year 2004. In 2003, the EEOC obtained $385 million for
discrimination victims.

In fiscal year 2004, 79,432 discrimination charges were filed with the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, compared to 81,300 in 2003.

Race discrimination allegations accounted for 35 percent of charges filed with
the EEOC in 2004, sex discrimination accounted for 31 percent, followed by age
discrimination at 23 percent, disability discrimination at 19 percent, and
national origin accounted for 11 percent.
